Metals may not be visible when you first fill your spa or pool but they are commonly found in the water. Removing them is necessary to protect your surfaces & equipment, and keep your water from becoming discolored. You should remove the metals in your water before adding sanitizer. Once you add sanitizer to your water this causes a chemical process called oxidation. The metals will fall out of solution causing staining on your spa surfaces or pool liner which can lead to rust. Additionally, it can discolor your water turning it green, yellow, red, or brown.
To prevent this from occurring it is recommended to use a Pleatco PPS2100/6120 Pre-Filter while filling/topping off your pool or spa. Then use a metal-removing product to pull the metals out of your water. The product we recommend is Unique. After you add the metal remover, you will want to rinse or backwash your filters 24 hours after application.
Come into Premier Pool & Spa with a water sample and we will test your water for metals! If metals are found in your water, our CPO-certified staff will assist you with instructions on how to remove them.
