Above-Ground Pool Maintenance Tips

The 2022 pool season may be over but we would like to prepare you for the 2023 season and give you some helpful above-ground pool maintenance tips.

Above-ground pools, just like in-ground pools, require general maintenance throughout the whole season. We have listed seven helpful tips to guide you in keeping your water crystal clear.

  • Follow a weekly maintenance checklist by completing these tasks weekly.
    1. Test the pH level to ensure it is in the proper range of 7.2-7.8.
    2. Test the chlorine level to make sure it is between 1-5ppm.
    3. Properly dose the water with algaecide, clarifier, and metal control.
    4. Shock your water weekly to oxidize combined chlorine.
    5. Check the water level to make sure it is around mid-skimmer.
    6. Empty the skimmer and pump baskets.
    7. Check the filter pressure and pump operation.
    8. Brush the walls and skim the surface of the water.
  • Test your water at Premier Pool and Spa once a month.
    1. Stop in with a water test monthly to check your water with our in-depth water testing machine. Our CPO-certified staff will then give you advice based on your results.
  • Ensure water circulation.
    1. Premier Pool & Spa recommends circulating your water 24 hours a day to prevent the growth of algae or the breeding of water bugs in stagnant water.

    2. Remove any branches that could potentially fall onto the pool walls.
    3. Refrain from mowing too close to the pool walls.
  • Manually vacuum your pool weekly.
    1. Your filter is unable to pick up all the debris in the water, to ensure all debris is removed from the water make sure you are vacuuming your pool weekly.
    2. Stop into Premier Pool & Spa to pick up a manual vacuum and get instructions on how to use it.
  • Use a solar cover.
    1. Covering your pool with a solar cover keeps the debris and insects from accumulating.
    2. It reduces the evaporation of water to keep the water level more stable.
    3. Covering your pool keeps the water warmer which will extend the pool season for you.
