The 2022 pool season may be over but we would like to prepare you for the 2023 season and give you some helpful above-ground pool maintenance tips.
Above-ground pools, just like in-ground pools, require general maintenance throughout the whole season. We have listed seven helpful tips to guide you in keeping your water crystal clear.
- Follow a weekly maintenance checklist by completing these tasks weekly.
- Test the pH level to ensure it is in the proper range of 7.2-7.8.
- Test the chlorine level to make sure it is between 1-5ppm.
- Properly dose the water with algaecide, clarifier, and metal control.
- Shock your water weekly to oxidize combined chlorine.
- Check the water level to make sure it is around mid-skimmer.
- Empty the skimmer and pump baskets.
- Check the filter pressure and pump operation.
- Brush the walls and skim the surface of the water.
- Test your water at Premier Pool and Spa once a month.
- Stop in with a water test monthly to check your water with our in-depth water testing machine. Our CPO-certified staff will then give you advice based on your results.
- Ensure water circulation.
- Premier Pool & Spa recommends circulating your water 24 hours a day to prevent the growth of algae or the breeding of water bugs in stagnant water.
- Upgrade your filtration system to a sand filtration system
- Sand filters are much easier to use than cartridge filters.
- They filter a larger amount of water than cartridge filters keeping your water cleaner and clearer.
- Filter sand only needs to be replaced every 5-7 years.
- Protect the pool walls.
- Avoid sitting on the walls of the pool.
- Remove any branches that could potentially fall onto the pool walls.
- Refrain from mowing too close to the pool walls.
- Manually vacuum your pool weekly.
- Your filter is unable to pick up all the debris in the water, to ensure all debris is removed from the water make sure you are vacuuming your pool weekly.

- Use a solar cover.
- Covering your pool with a solar cover keeps the debris and insects from accumulating.
- It reduces the evaporation of water to keep the water level more stable.
